Metal Roofing (Repair & Installation)

Metal roofing is a great fit for Maine and New England weather, especially when it’s installed and detailed correctly. Iron Badger Roofing provides metal roof repairs and installations across Southern Maine and the NH Seacoast, including both premium standing seam systems and cost-effective screw-down systems.

If you’re dealing with a leak, loose panels, flashing problems, or you’re considering a new metal roof, we’ll give you a straight answer on what’s going on and what the right fix looks like.

Metal roof repair (common problems we fix)

Metal roofs can last a long time, but they still fail at predictable points. We commonly repair:

  • Leaks around chimneys, skylights, walls, and valleys
  • Flashing issues (often the real cause of “mystery leaks”)
  • Loose or backed-out fasteners on screw-down systems
  • Failed sealant/closures at transitions and penetrations
  • Storm and wind damage
  • Rust/corrosion issues (case-by-case, depending on severity)

If you have photos, send a few clear shots. Often we can tell quickly whether it’s a small repair, a flashing detail, or a bigger system issue.

Standing seam vs. screw-down (what we install)

We work with both main categories of metal roofing:

Hidden-fastener standing seam (premium option)

Standing seam is the “clean look” metal roof most homeowners want. Hidden fasteners reduce exposed screw penetrations and can be a great long-term choice when properly installed and detailed.

Exposed-fastener screw-down (cost-effective option)

Screw-down metal roofing is common on garages, barns, camps, and certain residential/commercial buildings. It can perform well, but it’s more dependent on fasteners, washers, and maintenance over time.

We’ll recommend the right system based on your building, budget, and Maine weather conditions.

Metal roofing in snow and ice conditions

Metal sheds snow differently than shingles. That can be a benefit, but it also means details matter, especially around:

  • Ice and water protection at eaves and valleys
  • Flashing at chimneys and walls
  • Ventilation and condensation control
  • Snow retention (when needed for safety)

If you’ve had ice dam issues or heavy snow load concerns, tell us up front and we’ll factor that into the plan. See also ice dam removal and snow removal.

When repair makes sense vs. replacement

A repair is usually the right move when the issue is localized (a flashing detail, a penetration, a small damaged area). Replacement is usually smarter when:

  • The roof has widespread fastener/seal failures
  • Panels are heavily rusted/corroded
  • The system was installed incorrectly and keeps leaking
  • Multiple “patches” have stacked up over time

FAQs

Are metal roofs noisy in the rain?

With proper installation and decking/attic separation, most homeowners don’t find it to be an issue. The bigger factor is the roof assembly and insulation.

Can you repair a screw-down metal roof leak?

Yes. Many leaks come from fasteners, washers, penetrations, or flashing details.

Do metal roofs get ice dams?

They can, especially if heat loss and refreezing are present. The roof material helps, but ventilation/insulation and correct eave detailing matter.

Do you install hidden-fastener standing seam?

Yes. We install hidden-fastener standing seam systems and also work on screw-down systems.
